Bridge of Remembrance
A Category I heritage structure in NZ, the Bridge of Remembrance is an ornate war memorial dedicated to the Braveheart’s who participated in world wars and subsequent conflicts. Embellishing the archway are floral carvings, medallions and inscriptions of the places where local soldiers fought. The bridge itself offers beautiful views of the peaceful Avon river, where you can see people enjoying guided punting tours. Unfortunately, the bridge was structurally damaged during the massive 2011 earthquake but has been completely restored and recently reopened to public.
It is located in Christchurch’s city center and is just a short walk from other major city attractions.
