AYA Restaurant
Aya combines Japanese sushi with Thai delicacies. Expect semi-formal dining and steamy, moist face flannels to dab your face with, before hors d'oeuvres. The establishment has a very different feel to other eateries I've experienced in Liberec. Service for instance is very professional and precise. Staff address non-native speakers in English and know the menu inside out.
The restaurant is housed in a Pytlon Design Hotel; one of a few others in town under this name. It is tucked away from major streets, in the quiet district of Doubí. Downstairs seats a dozen guests in a stylishly, minimalistic, converted basement. Upstairs is slicker, with picture windows at right angles to one another, either side of the raised front door entrance. Although there is no bar, a plethora of drinks are on offer including traditional sakes.
I began with the Philly Roll of salmon, avocado and Philadelphia cheese. The roll was sectioned into eight pieces and all glided down very well indeed. To follow came the Phad Thai Mix. The dish was a generous portion and the flavours were well balanced. For me, corriander is the key ingredient of this dish and seeing a fresh cutting on the plate gave me reassurance.
I could not fault the wine at a reasonably priced 56 CZK for a 10ml measure.
Although the restaurant was at full capacity, the waitresses attended to guests in a timely manner. I would return to this establishment in order to degust more of their treats on the menu.
